Ice Cold - Gerry Hancock
The stars reflected brilliantly in the narrow channel of unfrozen river hemmed in by two vast blankets of snow while beneath the surface, bound hand and foot, lay the frozen remains of Albert Shepherd, the first geologist to venture this far north in search of oil. His lifeless body had been carried by the water’s flow from the icehole it had been dumped in by those who believed his plans for this sacred place blasphemous. When spring finally arrived the body would be deposited on the shore of Lake Anaga, and the petroleum company would know the Anaki’s final answer.
